SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Zoo will be offering a sensory-friendly holiday experience to visitors during the day and during Zoo Lights.

On Tuesday, Dec. 17 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. those with sensory sensitivities can enjoy the zoo during the day and the magic of Zoo Lights at night, with specially designed accommodations. During sensory-friendly hours, the zoo promises quieter music, limited flashing lights, and additional quiet areas.

The zoo collaborated with KultureCity, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating sensory-inclusive environments, to make this event more accessible. It will include designated quiet zones, and headphone zones throughout the zoo, allowing visitors to find calm and peace when needed.

Sensory bags containing noise-canceling headphones, fidget tools, and verbal cue cards, will be available for check-out at the zoo entrance with a valid I.D. Additionally, the zoo will provide curated sensory-friendly activities such as sensory bins, felt trees, and scented activities.

Sensory-friendly hours at the zoo are free for members and included with standard admission. You can visit the zoo’s website for more information and to purchase tickets.
